Hilux Build

It’s no surprise that we love a good challenge here at Hi-Range Safari City! When one of our customers brought in a bone stock Hilux to us, we took up the challenge with open arms to turn it into a proper overlanding machine.

This 2022 Hilux was dropped off to us with one goal in mind, and that was to kit it out properly in order to be able to enjoy our great outdoors here in Botswana. Our brilliant teams didn’t bat an eye, and went straight to work!

Our customers goal was to be able to have peace of mind and reliability wherever he pointed his Hilux!

Starting off with the front end and working our way to the rear of the vehicle, we started off with a full replacement bumper. This particular bumper is a beauty from PIAK, and proudly partnered up with Opposite Lock. Once the beast of a bumper was fitted, we went the extra mile and mounted 2 Spotlights from Light Force. The Genesis spotlights from Light Force are certainly in a league of their own, pushing out an astonishing 1 LUX of light at 1053m. Let us assure you, that’s very bright indeed!

Moving on to the top of the Hilux, we went all out, with the best of the best in terms of roof top tents! The iKamper Mini 3.0 was the perfect solution to be mounted on the FrontRunner roofrack.

Strong, sleek and easy on the eyes with a 1-Minute easy setup. The Skycamp 3.0 Mini rooftop tent offers the same easy setup as the Skycamp 3.0 in a shorter, expandable hard shell!

Further back we installed the Rhinocab canopy in order to fit all those much needed accessories. The canopy itself is quite versatile with it being able to take a roofrack for more accessories on top.

We added a long list of frontrunner goodies, from water tank, to spade, to a hi lift jack! It’s not all for show though, inside the canopy we managed to fit a full drawer system, able to neatly carry 6 frontrunner Wolfpack boxes. A 66L low profile Snomaster fridge on a tilt slider from AluCab to finish it off.
Moving on to the side of the Rhinocab we fitted a side kitchen unit, with a drop down base, and sliding chopping board. This unit mounts and closes flush into the canopy. Included as well is a spice rack that folds down for convenience.

What’s an overland build without a good amount of lighting?! We fitted working lights to the kitchen unit, as well as the interior of the canopy so that you can easily work in the back when it’s dark out. All these gadgets and electronics are powered and managed by the Intervolt battery management system mounted in the rear of the vehicle, which is solar ready, with a DC to DC regulator. Also included in the build was a serious 52L stainless steel water tank, and water pump for ease of use, built into the vehicle.

We finished it all off with a durable Onca rear replacement bumper, which is built tough and ready to take on trees, bushes and anything you throw at it!

It was an absolute pleasure delivering the vehicle to our customer who gave us a massive smile and praises for our professionalism and attention to detail, this in return made us smile as well!

We love what we do, and we love seeing our happy customers driving off with a fully kitted overlanding rig, ready to explore this beautiful continent!
